All of New Zealand’s state schools have a Board to govern the school. At Pukenui School, our Board plays a vital role in supporting strong leadership, setting strategic direction, and ensuring positive learning outcomes for all tamariki. Parent representatives are elected by our whānau community, and our staff representative is elected every three years.
The Board governs Pukenui School in accordance with our School Charter and the directives of the Ministry of Education. Board members work together to ensure the successful education and wellbeing of all children enrolled at our kura.
The Board is responsible for:
Setting strategic goals through the Strategic Plan
Establishing and reviewing Board policies
Delegating management of the school to the Principal
Ensuring effective review processes
Employment of staff

Ensuring safe and well-maintained property and learning environments
The essence of our Board is collaborative, future-focused governance that upholds the values of Pukenui School and supports our learners to thrive.
The Board is made up of parent-elected representatives, a staff representative, and the Principal.

How can I get involved?
Standing for the Board is a great way to support your child’s education and contribute to the future direction of our school. New Board members receive training, guidance, and support to help them carry out their role confidently.
Elections are held every three years. All elected Board members hold office for three years.
To stand for election, you must confirm you are eligible to serve as a Board member. The New Zealand School Boards Association (NZSBA) provides helpful information for whānau considering the role.
